Vince Zampella, who helped create the wildly popular franchise Call of Duty, has tragically died in a car accident in California aged 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio which he helped establish.

The renowned game designer lost his life when his car crashed and burst into flames on a freeway in LA on this past Sunday, as reported by.

"We are facing an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his family, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," an official with Electronic Arts said.
