The President Invites Relatives of Attacked National Guard Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the executive mansion.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Details on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.
White House Invitation
The commander-in-chief explained he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the state Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members came together over the weekend at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of the president’s government program to assist law enforcement in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her former high school, stated to the press. “She was kind, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Actions and Government Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the administration to halt refugee claims and halt providing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Condition of Wolfe
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, as stated by the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
