The former Liverpool manager says coming back to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains an option. Klopp, post a game-changing near-decade reign which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, currently occupies positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with the podcast host: “I said I refuse to lead another team on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, which suggests I might decide later on, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings multiple times weekly or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, yet sharing a meal with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently great spirits in the building. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, though he denied the notion of it representing a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. It’s a really good thoughtfully assembled roster. No need for concern regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect for the team. Jota was killed in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. It was an incredible shock for all the boys as well. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it individually is not easy. Impossible.”
