Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer previously helped the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.

Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their first Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Trailing three runs to one, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the reigning title, in the forthcoming World Series.

"It's incredible for our team, our city, Canada," said Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now hit twenty-three playoff homers, making him third all-time behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment other than him with his October magic," remarked manager John Schneider.

Seattle's team, despite leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a championship series.

Wilson commented "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and will host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
