British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Dies at 80.

Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

After a career spanning more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the design house 16Arlington.
