American Military Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Resulting in Four Deaths
As stated by a senior military official, the American armed forces executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were harmed.”
Background and Recent Actions
This announcement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil profits to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, the Pentagon stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, most off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Actions Amidst Pressure
The government has encountered increasing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. But, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its efforts as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.
While the administration has stated the operation is about stopping drugs headed to the US, comments from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “wants to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”
This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a push to oust Venezuela's current leadership.
