Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
